Description

Introducing our exquisite Pakistani Agra rug, a true work of art showcasing traditional design. This rug features a vibrant red background that beautifully contrasts with a navy border, creating a visually captivating piece.

Crafted by skilled Ethnic Turkmen weavers, mainly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made with the finest wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain of this region naturally produces longer staple, high-quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and hand spinning. Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug truly reflects the cottage industry nature of its production.

Employing the asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and boasting a cotton warp and weft with an all wool pile, this rug showcases the craftsmanship and resilience of double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving. These intricate techniques contribute to the remarkable durability of this handwoven masterpiece.

Centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs are used to achieve the rich red color in this rug. The dye is derived from the roots of the madder plant, scientifically known as Rubia tinctorum. Madder root dyes have a long history and have been cultivated for centuries in various parts of the world. They offer a range of warm and cool shades, including red, orange, pink, and brown.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80 and a total of 3,240,974 individually hand-tied knots, this Pakistani Agra rug exemplifies the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that is characteristic of our collection.

Immerse yourself in the rich history of this masterpiece, which brings together the traditions of Pakistani rug weaving with the artistry of Agra design. Transform your space with elegance and sophistication by adding this extraordinary rug to your home or collection.
