Description

Introducing a magnificent tribal rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece features an intricate arabesque design on a rich blue background. It showcases the skilled craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, known for producing high-quality, long staple wool due to its mountainous terrain. Afterward, the raw Ghazni wool is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn in Herat, on the western side of Afghanistan.

Using traditional floor looms, these rugs are woven in the weavers' own homes, following an age-old production method. The knots in this rug are asymmetrical Persian knots, giving it a unique texture and durability. The warp and weft are made of cotton, while the pile consists of wool. Double wefted and heavily packed, this rug's construction ensures its longevity and sturdiness.

Delving into its mesmerizing blue hue, this color is achieved through natural indigo dyes derived from the leaves of the indigo plant, scientifically known as indigofera tinctoria. Indigo has been utilized as a dye for thousands of years, with its vibrant blue shades being highly sought after in various cultures worldwide.

Measuring at 2'6" x 5'9", this rug boasts a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. Based on our calculation, it is estimated that this rug contains an impressive total of 163,597 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail invested in its creation.

With its rich heritage, stunning design, and exceptional craftsmanship, this Afghan tribal rug is a true work of art that will elevate any space it graces.
